I haven't posted for a while as I've been concentrating on my creative writing work. However, that doesn't mean I've neglected my art! During the lockdown, I worked on a few of my digital paintings.
You may ask why bother reproducing an image that already exists? Well, it can teach you new techniques as you try to mimic your reference image. This can be especially true when trying to copy an old master painting using digital media.
Both of these images were worked up mainly using Gimp 2.8, but now I'm on the home straight so to speak, I've swapped over to Artrage 5. I am finding the default pastel in Artrage to be very effective.
These artworks will take many more weeks to complete but it will be worth the effort for both the technical skills learnt and the fact I might make some sales on Redbubble.com using those new-found skills. I feel confident that I will be able to make my version of any old master painting that takes my fancy. Copyright has to have expired on these works of art, so check first if you are thinking of having a go yourself. There are thousands of 19th Century paintings to choose from, some may be famous and some might be little gems waiting to be discovered. It is worth honing up on your Art History!
